Some thoughts on divorce during wedding season

For many people, this time of year is synonymous with weddings. Over the last few months, on top of the customary summertime marriages, the British royal wedding has meant that images of Meghan Markle and her nuptials have been omnipresent as well. If you're considering a divorce, or are in a marriage that feels broken or unfulfilling and not sure what your next steps will be, the season can seem challenging.  Whether you're reading the Weddings section of a newspaper or opening an Instagram feed filled with images of brides and grooms, it can feel as though the world right now is focused on marriages.

But now, really, is an empowering season if your marriage is anything but perfect.  It's the ideal time to take stock of your relationship and think about whether or not you're truly happy. The power is in your hands to make a change to improve things if they aren't right. A consultation with a divorce lawyer can indeed be a positive first step.  If you're already divorced, now is the time to feel great about how far you've come, or get help handling any unresolved custody or maintenance issues. And if you're married without a pre-nuptial agreement, looking into getting what's called a post-nup, signed after the marriage is in place, makes sense as well.
